Rapido Folding camper

One of these appeared on Kijiji recently, and at $1500, it didn't last long. I wanted it, but I'm overloaded in the camper department :) It's made in France I believe, and at just under a thousand pounds, could likely be easily hauled by any vehicle. Here's some pictures, and a video is at the bottom. Search YouTube here for more videos...

Summer VeeDub Prep...

I have owned a VW camper for over 8 years now. It's still in pretty good shape, and not something I want to part with just yet. However, with almost 300,000 kms, the engine was complaining. I had already spent $$$ on the engine in the past and elected to replace it. Thanks to friends and good old Kijiji, I found a guy in Montreal that was converting his 4wd VW Syncro to a diesel, and selling a VW factory rebuild with only 45,000 kms. Short story longer, after some work and money, and a superb mechanic, my van has been Willied (on the road again). It's a 1986, but it spent its first 15 years or so in BC. The six year old paint-job needs some work, but I'm looking forward to its new lease on life. Peace out :)

Robins again

What is it with these Robins? At least the last time, they built their nest in a somewhat safe location, about 9 feet off the ground. This time they chose the top of a 6 foot ladder that was propped up against a fence. I'm thinking it would be pretty easy for one of the many neighborhood cats to climb said ladder. Not sure if I'll go to jail for this, but yesterday I removed the ladder, and carefully secured the nest in a "box" of sorts, made of lumber scraps screwed together. I'm speculating she must have approved, for today, look what I discovered...one new blue egg...only time will tell if my efforts are in vain...Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Robin :)

9V Nimh Rechargeables...

...seems I was always leaving the built-in tuner on my guitar "on", and it always obediently stayed "on" and ran down the 9 volt Duracell that I just installed. I'm hoping this will turn into another Princess Auto success story. In their surplus section, they sell a 9 volt charger complete with two 9 volt batteries. I had a rain check for $5.99 instead of the regular $8.99. So for the price of a throwaway Duracell, I get to try these out...I Googled the name "Bionicare" and I think it's some sort of gizmo for relieving Arthritis. Go figure...

One more Go Habs Go, for good measure...

Like the true underdog, they keep defying the odds. Last night they managed to produce exactly what has been lacking; a lucky bounce or two, secondary production, and an enhanced third period.
Conventional wisdom dictates that this can't continue, but the playoffs have been exciting for Montreal nevertheless. Even objective Hab-haters are impressed. They almost missed the playoffs. They almost lost to Washington in round one. Now they are going to go at least 6 games with the Penguins. Fate has dealt them a tough assignment indeed...

Kayakin'

I've been thinking about a Kayak lately. I don't know how much I'll get into it, so I picked up a basic 12' Pelican Pursuit. It would certainly make the purist scoff, but so far it seems like fun nonetheless. I went for a maiden voyage this morning...just a paddle in a local lake. Took an expert with me just in case :) (thanks Chris).
Apart from being cheap, there was a method to my madness: The 12' Pelican will fit in my camper van :) More pictures HERE...

IVECO...

This beauty has been roaming around Central Newfoundland lately. I just grabbed some photos of it for fun...
