Shameless Solicitation from me :)

Later this year, Debbie will be traveling to Kampala, Uganda with a team from our local church. She will be helping in various projects such as the construction of a new classroom unit for children in a Watoto village. Click here to learn more about Watoto. Separate from the cost of travel etc, the team is believing for a funding drive of a whopping $17,000. That is the amount needed in order to construct one of these classroom units. To that end, they/we need your help. Little by little, this goal can be realized, and children and families devastated by AIDS and civil war will be rescued. Leave a comment if you want to know more, and if you're a PayPal user, click on the donate button below to help out. I will see that you receive an official receipt for income tax purposes. Thanks for considering this.

Meat-a-terian Gluttony

Ok, on Sunday past me and the boys managed to shake Debbie (actually she had a more cultured engagement) and went to Michael's Bar and Grill for the all-you-can-eat Brunch special. Neither of us could "get outside" such a gut-load. Endless coronary delights: sausages, ham, baloney, bacon, scrambled eggs, home-fries, toast...I asked the waitress if anyone took them up on seconds and she said "about 20% of people do"...

Suzuki SX4 First Year Report Card

The New Ride I mentioned last year is working out well. We put just over 19,000kms on it in the first year and nothing broke, fell off, or needed repair. Maintenance costs boiled down to some oil changes. Overall a great little All-Wheel-Drive beater but I do have one complaint: Suzuki's gas mileage claims are nuts. The sticker said 30mpg city, and 40mpg highway...oh how I wish! Our gasoline cost for the first year was just over $2,400. That's about 2200 litres of fuel and a miserable average of 25 miles per gallon. That's combined city, highway, AWD, everything. Nevertheless, it's a great car, but not if you're in the market for a Yaris-like sipper :)

...smoke from a distant fire...

Thanks to those family and friends who have called expressing concern over how close we might be to the ongoing Halifax Brush Fire. I took this video from our front steps last evening...there's rain in the forecast, so I'm hoping and praying that it will be all over soon...

IVECO...

This beauty has been roaming around Central Newfoundland lately. I just grabbed some photos of it for fun...
